In No Order
Saturday, March 9th - Saturday, March 23rd 2019
The Eastern Star Gallery in collaboration with Mutmuz Gallery
The Eastern Star Gallery and Mutmuz Gallery are pleased to present their latest exhibition, In No Order. This collaborative and comprehensive installation highlights personal and communal histories, archives, and legacies in an exploration of the past and its role in the present. The show asks us to consider not only the inner workings of the individual, but also how the individual fits into history and how history fits into our daily lives and perceptions. Memory is not only an individual experience but often a communal one, and as such, nostalgia operates on both a bold and subtle scale. In No Order redefines the materialization of nostalgia and recollection through a variety of mediums, including that of immersive projections, sculpture, paintings, writing and family heirlooms. The range of media reflects upon the spectrum of recollection, in that each individual tends to remember an event differently, while simultaneously deconstructing and reconstructing the sequence to form their own story.
In No Order includes the work of Carolina Caycedo, Patricia Fernandez, Kang Seung Lee, and Samantha Thomas, Los Angeles-based artists whose work reflects the prominence and relevance of the past. These artists draw inspiration from the emotions and events of their own childhoods and ancestral legacies, leading to intimate, personal artwork that reflects the singular experience of each creator.
The Eastern Star Gallery is a unique art exhibition space located on the campus of The Archer School for Girls, an independent middle and high school in Brentwood, Los Angeles. This show, taking place on Saturday, 9 March 2019, will occur at Mutmuz Gallery located at 971 Chung King Road. The public gallery opening and reception will take place from 6:00-9:00 PM.
